April 2 event in Prince William County VA pays tribute to founding of Marine Corps
QUANTICO, VA (February 17, 2016) - In just 7 minutes, 44 seconds, runners captured all entries to the Marine Corps 17.75K, which opened for registration at noon today. Registered participants who complete the 17.75K, held in Prince William County, VA, on Saturday, April 2, will receive 'Access Granted' into the 41st Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) on Oct. 30.
"The Marine Corps 17.75K sellout is an exciting way to kick off the MCM's 2016 season," says Rick Nealis. "Now these runners can look forward to a great event in April as they gear up for Marathon training."
The Marine Corps 17.75K is a unique distance of 11.03 miles that pays tribute to the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1775. Runners from 34 states and the District of Columbia are now registered to run the challenging event which will occur through scenic Prince William Forest Park. All finishers age 14 and above receiving Access Granted cards will have until noon Eastern on April 5 to complete their registration for the 41st MCM.
The 17.75K will present beautifully designed medals commemorating the National Park Service's 100th anniversary. All participants also will receive commemorative technical shirts, bibs, and post-event recovery items in 17.75K hospitality. Families can enjoy music at the 17.75K finish located outside the Montclair Tabernacle Church on Route 234 in Manassas as they meet up with their runner and celebrate.
Marine Corps 17.75K registration has occurred a month prior to the MCM Lottery, open to the public from March 24 to 30 at MarineMarathon.com.
