Triathlon: Beginner Option Added to USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals Weekend

OMAHA, Neb. -- USA Triathlon today announced the addition of a beginner-specific wave for the Sprint National Championships, meant to encourage participation from new triathletes in the Omaha community.

Held as part of the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships weekend at Omaha's Levi Carter Park on Aug. 13-14, the beginner wave is targeted at 150 first-time triathletes who want to get started in the sport. Each person who registers for the beginner wave will receive an introductory 12-week training plan, and awards will be given to the first-place male and female finishers in this wave.

Registration for the beginner wave is open now at Active.com.

"While Age Group Nationals is the most competitive race in the nation, we have created an opportunity for first-time or newer triathletes to enjoy the experience of a national championship caliber race with a like-minded, non-intimating community of fellow beginners," said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO. "If you have ever thought about doing a triathlon this is your chance, and if you have never before imagined yourself even trying a triathlon we have an energizing plan for you. If you have ever thought about encouraging a friend, colleague, or family member to join you at a race, this is an enabling wave and the pathway to be part of our extraordinary community."

In addition to the beginner wave at Sprint Nationals, volunteers are also needed for a number of shifts for USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals. Positions include support roles at the finish line, along the run and swim course and at the award ceremonies, with time slots beginning Wednesday, Aug. 10 and continuing through Aug. 14. To sign up for a volunteer position with the Transamerica Tribe of volunteers and be an integral part of the event, visit USATriathlon.org.
