10 Years Ago- David Mandago Kipkorir (KEN) won the Cittą di Roma (ITA) Marathon over Daniele Caimmi (ITA),
2:08:38 to 2:09:30. Laban Kipngetich (KEN) was 3rd at 2:10:00. Tatyana Hladyr (UKR) won
the women's race with a 2:25:44. Larisa Zyusko (RUS) and Adanech Zekiros Adane (ETH)
followed at 2:26:26 and 2:27:38 respectively. Jennifer Rhines (USA) clocked a 2:29:32 PR
in 4th.
20 Years Ago- Thomas Osano (KEN) edged Graziano Calvaresi (ITA) 1:02:03 to 1:02:04 to win the City-Pier-
City Loop (NED) Half Marathon. Niima Tuluway (TAN) was 3rd at 1:02:10 while Marco Gielen
(NED) was 4th at 1:02:36. Jane Salumae (EST) won the women's race by a good margin over
Natalia Galushko (BLR), 1:11:38 to 1:12:21. Simona Staicu (ROM) was 3rd at 1:12:42.
30 Years Ago- Grete Waitz (NOR) lowered the world record at the 40th edition of the Paderborner Osterlauf
(GER) 25K with a 1:22:28. Susanne Riermeier (GER) and Christina Mai (GER) rounded out the
women's podium positions with 1:26:34 and 1:28:31. In the men's race, Kurt Stenzel (GER)
finished first with a 1:16:09. Johan Skovbjerg (DEN) and Manfred Schulz (GER) followed with
1:16:43 and 1:17:06 respectively. Waitz' record was not bettered for more than 24 years.
40 Years Ago- Bill Rodgers (USA) ran a 1:29:04 to win the downhill Bankathon (NY/USA) 30K (net drop 7.1 m/km).
Tom Fleming (USA) was next at 1:30:59, John Dimick (USA) was 3rd at 1:31:46, and Amby Burfoot
(USA) was 4th at 1:33:26.
50 Years Ago- Harald Norpoth (GER) won the gold medal at the European Indoor Games (GER) 3000m with a 7:56.0.
Siegfried Herrmann (GER) was the silver medalist at 7:57.2 while Istvan Kiss (HUN) was the
bronze medalist at 8:05.0.
60 Years Ago- Ron Clarke (AUS) ran 8:56.2 for two miles (track) in Melbourne AUS.
