COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- New national titles will be up for grabs this summer as USA Triathlon debuts its Family National Championships on June 25 in Loveland, Colorado.
Held alongside the Club National Championships in conjunction with the Loveland Lake to Lake Triathlon, the Family National Championships will recognize the best family pairs in two age divisions: pairs that are 80 combined years of age and younger and 81-plus combined years of age and older. The best combinations of siblings, spouses and families win, with awards given to the top-three finishers in each category. Family categories include spouse (male-female, male-male, female-female), siblings (brother-brother, sister-sister, brother-sister) or parent-child, as well as a family team of four.
Family National Championship awards are available in the sprint race, which covers an 800-yard swim, 15-mile bike and 4-mile run course. Athletes may participate in Club Nationals and Family Nationals concurrently, and all athletes must be annual members of USA Triathlon or purchase a one-day membership. The Club Nationals event also includes an Olympic-distance triathlon (1,500m swim, 30-mile bike, 10k run) and an aquabike (1,500m swim, 30-mile bike) event. Registration is open now at LovelandLaketoLake.com.
"Triathlon is the ideal sport to honor, enhance and energize family togetherness," said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO. "We look forward to celebrating numerous families rocking their mojo at our inaugural Family Nationals."
