Palma de Mallorca Marathon is the second most important sportive event in Mallorca and, for the upcoming 2016 edition (October 16th), it is expected to beat the 10.000 runners.
Palma de Mallorca Marathon has been presented in its new edition –which will take place on the 16th of October– at Palma’s Forum CaixaBank. During the act it’s been presented several improvements for its thirteenth edition which will help to make the participant’s experience even better than it was. A brand new design on the Expo and the Race Pack Pick UP area, which is expected to be quicker; and also the 10k race will start a few minutes later, at 9:40 am –forty minutes later than the Marathon and Half-Marathon–, in order to give more time room to the athletes.
Only behind the sailing’s Copa del Rey, last year’s edition gathered more than 9,000 runners between its three different distances and they expect to get over 10,000 participants in 2016. The renewed circuit was approved by the Real Federación de Atletismo Española and it is one of the main attractions for runners from more than 40 different countries: they will run next to the Mediterranean Sea and through the old town.
In fact, a striking PMM’s feature is that there are more participants from England and Germany than from the selfsame Spain. But there are, as well, a massive participation of people from countries like Sweden, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium and many more; which makes the Palma de Mallorca Marathon a global run.
About the race
On the 16th of October there will be three different distances to participate to: Marathon, Half-Marathon or 10k. With four animation points through the route. Also, on the previous afternoon there will take place the Obra Social “La Caixa” Palma Kids Run, which is expected to gather about 2.000 kids. In addition, on the Friday before, in the morning, it celebrates the Breakfast Run in order to attract the participants to the Expo Marathon, based in Parc de la Mar, at the Cathedral’s feet and let them relax before the competition. This area will be open Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm. A planned novelty for this year is a touristic and gastronomic route of the characteristic Spanish “tapa” with a stop on the Expo area.
Further, the athletes will get the chance to enjoy free touristic guided routes and some discounts to many museums of the city. It is also important to mention that Palma de Mallorca Marathon and the Fundación Vicente Ferrer will stay together in 2016 in order to find resources for some solidary projects that are developing in India.
Palma de Mallorca Marathon is organized by Kumulus, with Palma’s City Hall cooperation.
