Age Group Nationals is USA Triathlon's longest-running National Championships event and is consistently one of the largest triathlons in the United States. The two-day event, which will once again be held at Levi Carter Park, features Olympic-Distance National Championships on Saturday and the Sprint National Championships on Sunday.
Athletes must qualify for the Olympic-Distance National Championships, which covers a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10-kilometer run course. The qualification period for the 2017 event began on July 14, 2016, and will conclude on Aug. 4, 2017. Qualified athletes will receive an email invitation with a link to register starting today. Qualification guidelines are available at USATriathlon.org.
Sprint Nationals requires no qualification and registration is open now at Active.com for the 750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run event.
Thousands of athletes competed in Omaha this year as Age Group Nationals was held in Nebraska for the first time in history. The main venue will remain at Levi Carter Park, and much of the race courses will stay the same with changes to the Olympic-Distance Nationals run course. USA Triathlon will produce the 2017 Age Group National Championships with support from the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mimran Event Management and Race Omaha.
"We received great reviews in Omaha this year, and we already have been working diligently to make improvements in year two," said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO. "We appreciated the spirit of the community, all the volunteers, the city, and we are looking forward to hosting a fantastic event again in 2017."
