Marathon, Half Marathon, to See Record Number of Participants
October 17, 2016 - For the fifth consecutive year, the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon has reached capacity with a record number of participants. The event, scheduled for November 5 in downtown Indianapolis, has closed registration for the 26.2 mile race, earlier than in previous years. Together with the half marathon, 5K and Kids Fun Run, the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon expects to bring nearly 19,000 runners to the start line on race day.
In June, Beyond Monumental announced the first title sponsor of the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, CNO Financial Group. Their organizational mission to educate Indianapolis youth on the benefits of exercise, proper diet and healthy living aligns with CNO Financial Group's commitment to health, wellness and the central Indiana community. The sponsorship has provided for significant opportunities for the upcoming November event.
"With the help of our new title sponsor CNO Financial Group, we’ve once again been able to expand the capacity of our races to allow for more participants. We’re thrilled to have so many runners, walkers and supporters joining us in downtown Indy," said Blake Boldon, Executive Director of Beyond Monumental.
Visit Indy calculated that the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon had an economic impact of $8.4 million in 2015. The event routinely hosts Olympians, international athletes, local elites, and first time runners alike. The marathon had the 5th most Qualifiers for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials among U.S. Marathons and it has also been named one of “10 Great Marathons for First Timers” by Runner’s World.
A wait list is available for the marathon and participants will be allowed to register as space permits. Registration is open online for the half marathon, 5k and Kids Fun Run through 11/1 and is available at the 2016 Indianapolis Health and Fitness Expo, taking place at the Indiana Convention Center on November 4 and 5.
