Athletics: TCS Amsterdam Marathon climbs list of fast marathons

Top 10 runs under 2.08

Last Sunday, the 16th of October, Daniel Wanjiru (KEN) broke the track record of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon in a time of 2.05.21. In doing so, he led an impressive group, resulting in no less than eight times under 2.07 and even ten under 2.08. And with that, Amsterdam now ranks second on the list of fastest marathons ever. Only Dubai saw more placings under 2.07 and 2.08 in 2012.

In addition, these results have pushed the TCS Amsterdam Marathon from position 9 to position 8 in the ranking ‘average ten fastest marathon cities’. If one only considers the ranking of 2016, then Amsterdam tops the annual list worldwide, scoring better than marathon cities such as Dubai, Berlin and London. This ranking is as follows:

The list of fastest marathon cities 2016 (average times 1st ten runners)
1.	Amsterdam 2.06.22
2.	Dubai 2.06.27
3.	Berlin 2.07.36
4.	London 2.08.25
5.	Paris 2.08.55
6.	Rotterdam 2.10.09
7.	Eindhoven 2.12.00
8.	Chicago 2.13.29
9.	Boston 2.16.13
10.	Frankfurt to follow this weekend.
