Three-year agreement includes outfitting race committee and race ambassadors
November 18, 2016, Washington, DC: Organizers of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile and 5K Run-Walk announced today a three-year sponsorship agreement with Baltimore-based Under Armour, Inc., originators of performance footwear, apparel and equipment for a wide variety of sports. Details of the agreement were not released, though race officials and race ambassadors will be provided the latest running footwear and gear each year.
The 45th running of the race will be held on April 2, 2017, and will be the third event in the 2016-17 PRRO Series, which will culminate in the PRRO Championship in Pittsburgh next fall.
Event Director Phil Stewart said, "We are elated to have Under Armour as our apparel and footwear sponsor. Under Armour is the hottest athletic brand in the country and the Baltimore-based company is practically our neighbor - both factors make our new relationship special. We look forward to showcasing Under Armour products at the 45th running of the 'Runner's Rite of Spring' on April 2."
"The Cherry Blossom 10-Miler is the quintessential road race in D.C., and Under Armour is excited to be supporting such an influential community event in our very own backyard," said Dave Larson, General Manager, Running at Under Armour. "We look forward to not only outfitting participants on race day with our innovative apparel, but also working alongside our important partners on the ground, Potomac River Running Company and our run crew, District Running Collective."
Under Armour's running community continues to expand, as the brand's commitment to the sport has shown tremendous growth through new innovative footwear and apparel, local and national sponsorships and new partnerships with urban run crews. The Under Armour Connected Fitness platform, including digital running community MapMyRun, serves as another extension to the brand's growing global audience and provides all runners with the tools they need to perform their best.
